Myeik, the costal city in Southern Myanmar

Myeik is a popular tourist destination located on the southeast coast of Myanmar. The city has a varied history that includes periods of British colonial rule and military dictatorship. In more recent times, the country's political transition has brought with it a period of rapid development. Myeik is therefore an exciting city to visit with lots to see and do.

This beautiful city is best visited in the dry season between November and April when temperatures are cooler and less humid than during the rest of the year. January and February tend to be the best months to visit when the weather is at its driest. March can be a good time to visit if you enjoy a bit of sunshine as rainfall tends to decrease during the month. The rainy season lasts from May to October with most of the rain falling in June and July. However, it is not unusual for rain and thunderstorms to fall throughout the year, so it is always advisable to bring an umbrella with you when visiting the city.

Myeik is a large port city and the main gateway to the islands off the coast of Myanmar. The city is also known for its bustling markets, temples and street food. Visitors to the city can also relax on the shores of one of the many sandy beaches located along its coastline. The city is served by Myeik Airport which is located about 6km outside the city. There are several daily flights available to and from Yangon and Mandalay which makes this a convenient option for visitors wishing to explore other parts of the country while staying in Myeik.

Myeik offers plenty of accommodation options to suit different budgets and requirements. There are a wide range of luxury hotels in the city as well as a number of hostels that are popular with budget travelers. There are also several good mid-range hotels located in the city centre. Many people choose to stay in one of the island resorts which are quieter and more scenic than the city centre. These resorts are located just off the coast and can be easily accessed from Myeik by boat. If you are looking for something more affordable there are also plenty of guesthouses located throughout the city which offer a cheaper and more relaxed alternative to staying in an hotel. Most of the hostels are located in the downtown area although there are also a few good options on the islands. Many of the guesthouses are located in the older part of town and are more traditional in style, featuring bamboo beds, fan rooms and shared bathrooms. In contrast, the more expensive hotels offer more modern facilities and higher standards of service. Most of the larger hotels also have swimming pools and fitness facilities on site as well as restaurants serving both local and international cuisine.

Myeik is a city with a warm tropical climate which means that the weather is generally hot and humid all year round.
